Overview

Remote canyon trail heads south from popular Cleater Bar.

Trail is remote and lightly traveled as it winds back and forth across Turkey Creek. The trail is sometimes referred to as Dead Cow Gulch even though it follows a narrow canyon called Black Canyon. After Howard Copper Mine, you’ll climb into foothills and end with a scenic descent to Castle Creek Road. Good camping on Castle Creek Road west of Waypoint 06. This dispersed camping area is popular with ATVs and UTVs, which can access a network of trails to the south. Stop in at Cleator Bar, open weekends.

Trail Ratings Defined

Rocky with creek crossings, but no major obstacles. A tippy, narrow ledge at Waypoint 04 may intimidate novice drivers.
