Overview

Popular SUV road inside Death Valley National Park.

One of the most popular backroads in Death Valley National Park. Very scenic after the first 10 miles. Visit historic Leadfield where mines and a few buildings remain. Interesting geologic rock formations and a few petroglyphs. Street-legal vehicles only. Trail is one way east to west. Park pass required.

Rating

Easy
Trail Ratings Defined

A well-maintained gravel road, but steep and narrow in a few places. Four-wheel drive seldom necessary under dry conditions. Road is closed when rain is expected due to extreme flash flood danger through the narrow canyon.

We have done this trail in both our large overland rigs and it is a great place to explore in a vehicle and on foot. You can do this trail in a full size rig with enough width and height clearance on the trail. The canyon walls are dramatic and provide some nice shade on hot spring and summer days. We would highly recommend the trail. Animal Overland
