Overview

Challenging ride to huge processing mill

Visit historic Sunflower Mine (a.k.a. National Mine). When you reach the mill, you’ll see a giant steel pipe that tumbled a reddish-brown ore called cinnabar. The resulting fine particles were burned in vertical furnaces with coke to produce mercury gas. The gas liquified after being cooled in giant U-shape tubes. Most of this equipment is still standing inside a large dilapidated wooden building. Large mines are scattered on hillsides around the mill. Never enter a mine regardless of how safe it may appear.

We did this trail on Saturday, Nov 16th 2019. Four side by sides. FUN FUN FUN ride! We did it in the "reverse" direction so the "hard stuff" was first. I posted a YouTube video with excerpts from it; since I probably can't post links, search for "Sycamore Creek November 16, 2019." I plan to come back and do this trail again in the near future! Super fun.
