Overview

A short trip with variety of fun challenging terrain.

A short trip with variety of fun, challenging terrain. Most of route follows wide Smelter Wash. Interesting underpasses of Hwy. 76 and San Manuel Railroad. Photo opportunity through one narrow canyon of Smelter Wash. Last part of trip follows San Pedro River bed, which can only be driven when dry. Most of trip crosses State Trust Land, on which a permit is required. Great trail for UTVs, ATVs, and dirt bikes. Right at Wpt. 06 goes to start of Holy Joe Rim, trail #64.

Trail Ratings Defined

One downhill section after 0.9 miles is very rutted and is a good test of vehicle articulation. We don’t rate it difficult, but future erosion could make it so. Fortunately, this section can be bypassed. Air-down for soft sand conditions in washes and river bed.
