Overview

Steep, sandy road climbs mountain above Whiskeytown Lake.

A steep, sandy road climbs nearly 4,000 feet to the top of Shasta Bally Peak. Great views of Whiskeytown Lake below and, on a clear day, you can see Mount Shasta 60 miles to the northeast. Sheep Camp, along the route, has picnic tables, grills and a vault toilet. Street-legal vehicles only. A small fee is charged to use the park. Pay at the visitor center at start of trail. While at the visitor center learn about the history of the area and the many activities available, including swimming, canoeing, sailing, hiking, horseback riding and gold panning.
