Overview

Long offroad trek across Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

This trail crosses more than 30 miles of extremely remote backcountry. Even though it’s easy most of the time, if you have a problem, it’s a long walk out. Go with another vehicle. Trail ends at the stunning north end of Lake Powell. A short side trip at Waypoint 03 leads to a great camp spot above the Colorado River, and no permit is needed. A special rule allows unlicensed vehicles to ride all of trails #81 and #82. Gas is usually available at the Hite Outpost, which has a single 24-hour, credit-card gas and diesel pump. Next closest gas is at Hanksville 52 miles north.

Trail Ratings Defined

Road is generally in good condition and easy to follow, except after heavy rainstorms, which was the case when we drove it the first time in 2016. On that trip, we encountered one challenging washout. However, on our most recent trip, we breezed through with no problems.
