Overview

Fun 4×4 road north of Rabbit Ears Pass.

Although this trail is short, it is challenging in spots and tremendous fun. The view from the top is truly outstanding. We drove the trail on July 4th and met many hikers. Camp spots were at a premium. Great care was given not to offend anyone and all went well. Whenever possible, we pulled over and shut off our engine to let hikers enjoy the serenity of this beautiful area. Open July 1 to Dec. 1.

Trail Ratings Defined

Embedded rock, muddy and steep in places. Stock vehicles will find a rocky climb at Waypoint 02 quite challenging, but careful tire placement should prevail. High clearance and 4-wheel drive a must. Last 0.2 miles is very steep and narrow with tight trees and no room to turn around at end. Best to hike this section.

There is a turnaround at the top now, but the narrow and steep part is quite true. Tough even in an ATV. Everything up to that can be handled in a decent Jeep with some careful driving. The hardest part is fording a small tributary to Grizzly Creek. The view from the top is spectacular! Did this on a weekday in late September and were still a lot of hikers and a few bikers. Would avoid this in an ATV or SUV during high season
