Overview

Great scenic camping in this small loop above Estes Park.

Great place to camp with the family over the weekend. Arrive early and get a camp spot with a view. Ideal area for ATVs, UTVs and dirt bikes. Small enough area that kids can ride by themselves and find their way back to campsite. Stay on marked trails at all times. Don’t trample vegetation around campsites or cut across meadows. Open June 15 through November 30.

Rating

Moderate
Trail Ratings Defined

Steep and rocky in a few places, but nothing difficult. Hardest part is at the beginning, so pulling a hauling trailer to a campsite could be a challenge. Not much room to park at start of trail. No toilets. Pack out trash.

F.S. 247D that connected the two loops on the east side, has been removed and is totally revegetated. The boardwalk at “The Notch” has significantly deteriorated, but the view there is still spectacular.

This trail is such a blast, has its tough spots but not too horrible. We take our ATV and can spend a few hours on the trail and then go into Estes Park to shop and eat. Highly recommend trying.
