Overview

Just enough challenge to make it fun for 4×4 SUVs.

Quiet and relaxing getaway with just enough challenge to make it fun. You’ll cross small sand dunes, several washes and one rocky section. A popular area for ATVs and UTVs with many side roads to explore. Primarily a winter-use trail as thousands of OHVers with motor homes flock to the area to camp in the desert along Plomosa Road.

Trail Ratings Defined

Mostly flat desert with occasional sandy climbs. One washed-out section may cause trouble. Generally, stay right for easiest route. Some rocky terrain between Waypoints 05 and 06 as you pass through a low spot in the Plomosa Mountains. Our stock Grand Cherokee made it fine.

I rode it April 15, 2020. Super relaxing trail, wide spaces, lots of roads. I am not sure, I have always followed the recommended road as there are many, but it did not matter, one can see where one is going, so one just go in the general direction. One can enjoy the open spaces, have fun on sand dunes, rode rocky roads, enjoy nice views and perfect air. Great for social distancing, I have not met anybody else the whole day. I did it alone, I have not need any help, no navigator or spotter needed! Easy access from Phoenix on I10. Perfect for relaxing off road day trip from Phoenix! I highly recommend this route, especially for beginners. Not really need for 4WD except maybe for the sand dunes. Waypoint 01 - turn off the paved road is easy to miss. It is not marked and rather inconspicuous.
