Overview

Scenic mountain drive to forgotten towns.

Scenic mountain drive that reaches several forgotten towns. Harshaw and Duquesne are legitimate ghost towns with interesting buildings still standing. Lochiel was once a border crossing point into Mexico. This is a popular recreation area with many side roads to explore. Stay on numbered routes. Lochiel is at U.S. border under surveillance of U.S. Border Patrol.

Wide, dirt-packed road. F.S. 128 to the town of Duquesne has some embedded rock and steeper hills but is still easy.

Rather underwhelming. The only picturesque stretch is a shelf road between Duquesne and Nogales. The “ghost town” is all fenced off with numerous “no trespassing” signs. The old school house in Lochiel is a nice site to see. The mine chute and shafts are a cool feature for kids. The road is perfectly graded most of the way.
