Onion Creek is a relaxing drive through a beautiful deep-cut canyon with distinctive rock formations. BLM says there are 27 creek crossings. Open to unlicensed vehicles but nothing to explore off the main road. Do not drive in the creek except to cross it. The view of Fisher Towers can be enjoyed from Highway 128, but you can’t appreciate the size of the towers without getting close. A fun 2.2-mile (one-way) hike at Fisher Towers ends at a high overlook of Onion Creek.

A car can do it under normal conditions. Four-wheel drive may be needed after a storm. Slippery when wet at the end as you climb out of canyon. Creek is usually a trickle, but can be deep after heavy rains. Flash floods are possible.
