Overview

Easy road with a few rocky sections near the top.

Unobstructed views at the top with distant views of Red Cone, Webster Pass, Guanella Pass and more. Mid section has good fall color. Popular hiking area. Fee campground and plenty of dispersed camping near start of trail.

Trail Ratings Defined

First two-thirds is easy. Last couple of miles has all the challenging sections. Very steep in spots with large rocks that get pushed around by vehicles and erosion. Not recommended for stock vehicles after Waypoint 03. Sun melts snow on top earlier than most peaks at this altitude. Not much room to turn around at top.

We climbed all the way to the weather station today in three jeeps. Two Rubicons and a Sahara. The Sahara and one if the rubies have small lift kitsch. The other ruby is a four-door. Drug the skid plates a few times but no hangups.

The trail is now closed after Waypoint 02, which essentially eliminates all the four-wheeling.
