Overview

Old mining road climbs high to base of two 14,000-ft. peaks.

Follow old mining road to flat parking area above 12,700 feet. Austere and beautiful route is mostly above timberline. Provides hiking access to two 14,000-ft. mountain peaks. Camping on lower portion of trail must be done in designated camping spots. Seasonal wildflowers.

Rating based on one rocky spot at the bottom and one stretch of narrow shelf road near the top. Most of the road is fairly wide and moderate. Stock vehicles should have high clearance, low-range gearing and skid plates. Novice drivers may find the last half mile intimidating.

This is a nice one with a secluded feel and some nice views. Did it with a guy in a stock four runner who did just fine. A great place to offer a ride to the hikers back to their Prius and spread some good will for the Jeep community.
