With three outstanding wilderness areas as a backdrop, Turquoise Reservoir serves as a focal point for many recreational activities, especially fishing. Great hiking trails, including the Colorado Trail, crisscross the area. In addition, you’ll see two historically significant railroad tunnels. To make a long day out of it, you can continue another 43 miles past Ruedi Reservoir to Highway 82 at Basalt and return to Leadville via Independence Pass.

Went over the pass on 8-20. Rocky but not terrible. Did it in a 99 S10 blazer. Great views from the top!
Went over pass on 8-20 with a stock 99 Chevy blazer. Great trail for beginners.
