Visit ruins of historic gold mine near Yuma.

The drive to the mine crosses some harsh-looking terrain and is anything but scenic. Your reward is seeing ruins of a massive 1890s gold mine, fully explained on a large 3-panel kiosk at the mine. The closer you look, the more you’ll see. ATVs and UTVs are allowed, but they must be licensed and street legal. Continuing south at Waypoint 05 connects to the El Camino Del Diablo West, Trail #99, in this book. A free permit is required to enter the Barry M. Goldwater Range. Call numbers at right for details.

Trail Ratings Defined

The road is rough and rocky, but not at all difficult. There’s one steep hill going up to the reservoir, but any stock 4-wheel-drive SUV with low-range gearing can do it. Many con fusing side roads, so follow directions.
