Overview

Visit major mine on a narrow, tippy road.

The first half of the trail has changed drastically since we last drove it in 2012. It is now an easy scenic drive to the Desoto Mine and beyond to Waypoint 03. There are many fun side roads to explore. Please obey all warning signs around mines. There is a way to reach an overlook above the mine, but it is a neglected private road and is slowly eroding away. Open to non-street-legal vehicles.

Well-maintained road for the first half. After that, the road is for experts only, with difficult rocky sections and narrow shelf roads. Very tight brush may force wider vehicles to turn around. We recommend hard-core modified vehicles only after Wpt. 04.

Trails is now easy. Recent fire in the area resulted in road being manicured for firefighters to get in easily. There are still 2 or 3 medium difficult areas to climb. Nothing bad like before.
