Overview

Climbs to high ridge above Bear Valley Ski Area.

First half of trail climbs steeply through meadows of thick mule ears to a high ridge with views of Bear Valley Ski Area and Mokelumne Wilderness. A few choice camp spots along the ridge. Second half is much easier with a stop at an historic cowboy cabin. Everything is open to green-sticker vehicles except the last mile along Cabbage Patch Road. More OHV roads available west of this trail. See MVUM.

Great trail for a mostly easy day out with the family. The trail conditions change year to year and last time I went in September 2018 the beginning of the trail was pretty rutted and took a bit of technical driving. Still manageable by a stock Jeep but if you’d rather just an easy drive you can start on the east side of the trail and then turn around and go back the same way at the top. The trail could be marked better. Make sure you know where to find the beginning before you go. Sometimes you can see people camping out at the bottom. Beautiful spot for camping at the top, but make sure you have everything you need because there’s no quick place to grab something extra if you forget it. I give it 5 stars for what it’s supposed to be. There are 1 or 2 obstacles but it’s mostly a beautiful drive up the mountain.

This according to it here is NOT Bridgeport. This trail should be renamed in the area of Bear Valley, even Markleeville is still not the area as "the Marks" is still on the other side of Ebbetts. I run this trail alot due to me being a local. With that being said, it is not a beginner trail, I would keep it as moderate, hard come early spring with washouts, downed trees etc. It's a great day run, beautiful views and some spots to test your skills, say let's bumped up a beginner to this one.
