Overview

Fun wash climbs to a high overlook of Palisade.

Coal Canyon is a popular multi-use recreation area because it’s close to Grand Junction and provides equestrian and hiking access to the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Area. Our route follows a wash, then climbs to a high overlook of Palisade. Northwest of Waypoint 03, the trail continues in the wash, narrows, and eventually dead-ends. Some camping is available. Motorized vehicles must stay on designated routes at all times. Yield to non-motorized traffic and livestock. Closed Dec. thru May to protect wildlife.
