Overview

Narrow shelf road features huge dropoff along cliff.

Trail climbs along high rocky cliffs and offers nonstop challenges. Incredible scenery especially at the end. Significantly more difficult since the last time we drove it. We would caution everyone to ride in a group on this trail. A breakdown could be an all-day event. Popular mountain bike area. Be courteous; pull over and let bikers pass.

Trail Ratings Defined

Strictly hard-core. This was the hardest trail we did in our 4-door Rubicon on 35’s. A huge ledge on narrow shelf road at 2.6 miles is not for the faint of heart.

William F. Dawson, says

Not for the faint of heart. The trail starts with an immediate set of stair step desents, crosses a dry creek bed then challenges you with a 3-4 foot ledge. There are a series of very challenging obstacles until you reach the namesake obstacle on the face of a 400 foot cliff. Our winch was never used but only because we were with a group that had a couple of very experienced spotters.. careful wheel placement is the key to this trail. Cliffhanger is a “in and out” trail meaning that the only way is the way you came in. This can cause some very serious thoughts while in the middle of the trail.
