A short but challenging climb to an old WWII calcite mine and a high overlook with views of Anza- Borrego State Park and the Salton Sea. See map for side trips to hiking trails into two amazing slot canyons. Streetlegal vehicles only in state park.

They have rebuilt the road and you can easily access this site in any passenger car. Because of the sheer shelf road, I would rate this trail MODERATE.

This trail is stock vehicle-friendly, I went on it a month later, and was still the same. The hardest part is the berm from the S-22 into the staging area of the trailhead. The entire trail has been graded. We’ll see how it is with this season’s weather.

We ran the trail today and it’s been completely graded and while there are still some steep sections, it’s now an easy ride.
