Box Canyon at Hassayampa River

Overview

More fun when water is flowing through the canyon.

A chance to splash in a desert river. The trail follows the Hassayampa River, most often shallow water or just a dry riverbed. Tall red rock canyon walls provide welcome shade during the hot summer. You have two chances to exit the trail via Rincon Road; however, the riverbed is much more scenic. Fun side trips for OHVs.

The starting point listed in the book is no longer available (fenced off and no-trespassing signs posted). Get to the trail from the staging area at 34.034359, -112.739842 which is where FunTreks tells the ATVs to stage and enter.

The original trail that approaches Box Canyon Wickenburg crosses private property. Individuals stage in the river along Rincon Road. The landowners are asking that Box Canyon visitors travel 1/4 Mile up the road away from private property to Stage their vehicle. Please reroute your Trail to avoid traveling the river through private property.

This is a beautiful easy trail. The sand can become quite slippery. Don’t go too far past the box canyon hideout. We got stuck in water and quick sand in the second pool of water after the watch tower.
