Overview

Gets its name from a spring along the route.

You’ll follow F.S. 361 from Cherry Road and circle around Hayfield Draw OHV Area. The trail is not really a monster; it just happens to pass Blue Monster Spring, from which it gets its name. The road is twisty and fun as it passes between many mines on the hillside. Contact Prescott N.F. for special camping restrictions. You can connect to 361 via ATV Trail #527N from the main staging area of Hayfield Draw OHV. All trails in the OHV area are 50” width restricted

This is an update to my earlier review from 2018:) The trail is noticeably more eroded over the first 2 miles from the Cherry Creek Rd start. The ledgy spot is more pronounced than it was. The tightest brush has been trimmed so there was no really tight brush. It is more clearly a 4×4 HC trail now, but still moderate, just slower. Still, a very pleasant trail to drive in my opinion. The views, on the other hand, are mediocre as typical of the area (extremely dry brush dominates).

The trail has had some water erosion, most noticeable in the steep uphill corners. Also, there has been a lot of tree growth and the trail is narrow in a couple areas even for a jeep.

Fun drive through nice terrain. There was no traffic and access was easy. The trail was fun for the kids and me through its entire length. The only annoying feature of the trail in Spring 2018 was a brushy spot. As mentioned by the other reviewer, there are a couple of seriously eroded spots, which were fun for us. A locker or offroad traction control help. The exit section was fun to drive as well. Good find.

Drove this with a 2020 4Runner TRD Pro (32 inch tires, 2 inch lift). Definitely would not want to do this without a low range as it's quite steep in areas. Was able to complete it without locking at any point, but one steep, loose uphill did break me loose a bit before I was able to find some more traction. Views are kind of unremarkable with a few interesting mining relics in the area. Highlight of it was probably the trail itself to be honest. Not unhappy I did it, but unremarkable.
