Overview

Test your nerve and skill on this Colorado favorite.

Also known as Lake Como Road, this is one of the best hard-core trails in Colorado. A mix of dangerous obstacles and incredible beauty. Popular weekend outing includes an overnight campout at invigorating Lake Como. Take a fishing pole. At 14,335 feet, Blanca Peak is the highest mountain in the Sangre De Cristo Range and the 7th highest in the contiguous United States. A very popular “fourteener” hiking trail. Be courteous to hikers. Unlicensed vehicles permitted, but insanely difficult for short wheel-based vehicles.

Trail Ratings Defined

Four named obstacles; only one has a bypass. Jaws 2 is the most dangerous with a history of rollovers down a steep embankment. Many drivers stop at Lake Como to avoid Jaws 4. Minimum 33" tires and at least one locker. Breakdowns and use of winch are common. Passing very difficult when downhill traffic meets uphill traffic. Expect backups and long waits on busy summer weekends.
