Overview

Difficult backroad traverses large expanse of San Rafael Swell.

A rugged and beautiful trail, wide enough for Jeeps but more often used for ATVs and UTVs. To reach the start of Behind the Reef, you’ll pass through a popular recreation area surrounding Temple Mountain with great camping and vault toilets. The trail is unique in that it shares a section with a popular hiking trail. Pack extra water and be courteous to others on the trail. You can loop back to the start via difficult 858 or exit on EM6761 to connect with EM1012. This way back is a long 25-mile trip, but the drive goes quickly because the road is wide and smooth.
