Overview

Climbs to scenic Adams Lake and camping.

The major feature along this challenging loop route is scenic Adams Lake. Camp spots around the lake are seldom fully occupied because of the lake’s remote location. A great area for unlicensed vehicles to explore with a massive network of roads west of Waypoint 05. Licensed vehicles can go all the way to Rifle and Meeker. Entire trail is above 10,000 feet with some parts at 11,000 ft. Don’t go too early before snows have melted. Call number at right for possible closure dates.

Trail Ratings Defined

No major obstacles, but very rocky and steep in places. Snows melt late so expect wet, muddy conditions in spots. Only the most aggressive SUVs with very high clearance should attempt it. We didn’t drive our stock Grand Cherokee on this one.
