Northern half of trail passes through one of the most historic mining areas in Colorado. Many structures are still standing, including the much-photographed Yankee Girl Mine. Southern half of route has spectacular views looking across valley to Porphyry Gulch, Black Bear, and Chattanooga.

Ran only the upper part of this area. We enjoyed seeing the mines and headframes on this route. I would highly recommend this area and the road was easy.

On July 16 we ran into snowbanks about 1.6 into the South section (825 South from 550) and had to turn back. Some vehicles could possibly make it, but not in our mostly stock JK.
