Overview

Rough forest road close to Fort Collins.

A popular 4×4 road due to its close proximity to Fort Collins. Private landowners on the eastern end are not happy that the public is allowed to cross their land to get to the forest. Please pass through quietly; do not stop for any reason. Once in the forest, you’ll find lots of dispersed camping. Entire route is CLOSED TO OHVs. Gates open about June 15 if the road has dried out enough. Call ahead to be sure.

Trail Updates

September 2025

Drove it in Late Sept 2025.
Easy drive, but one very deep ruts all across the road. Low range 4×4 needed, and some serious tilt on a standard Sahara to get through.
Lots of fun, but a hairy section in the middle!

When we redrove this trail, we saw that the Forest Service has done a lot of work on the trail to repair damage from the High Park Fire. There were a few rough spots along the route, but overall we found the trail easier than we did when we drove it in 2010. We now rate the trail easy instead of moderate.

We drove this 9/21/2025, in a standard Jeep Saraha Its a straightforward drive, some rocks and bumps, but nothing challenging, however, about 6 mils in there is a very intimidating section of massive, undulating mounds, all the way across the trail. There is no ability to go round, and you are going to need 4WD LOW. we got through by putting one side of the jeep up the bank, and (I think) nearly rolled over. All good fun, but this was close to the limit of what this stock Jeep was going to do. Guy in front of us in a Truck had to turn tound, and its a long drive back! Last thing I would say is that its a fun off-road drive, but its nowhere near as senic as Shrine Pass in Vail
