Overview

Fee road through Indian reservation descends to Colorado River.

Wide dirt road descends gradually to the Colorado River bordering the western end of Grand Canyon National Park. Scenic, but not overpowering like the main canyon. Road is owned and maintained by the Hualapai Indian Reservation and a permit is required ($26.75/adult in 2011). Obtain permit at Hualapai Lodge across street from start of trail. NO GAS IN PEACH SPRINGS. Closest gas station we found was 7 miles west of town on Route 66.

Road is mix of dirt and gravel. Well packed and smooth most of the way. Last couple miles, as you approach river, can be rutted and washed out after a heavy rain storm. These conditions may require four-wheel drive.
