Overview

Challenging descent to stone cabin along popular creek.

This is an interesting drive that descends through scenic red rock country. It features one short section of narrow, rocky shelf road that may intimidate some drivers. You once could drive all the way down to Oak Creek. Now you will need to take a short half-mile hike to reach the creek and the stone cabin ruins at the homestead. Watch for horseback riders and hikers. Popular camping area at end of trail.

Trail Ratings Defined

Just one section requires this rating. A loose rocky hill climb will require 4-Low. Aggressive, high-clearance SUVs with skid plates can do it with an experienced driver.

2024 Ford Bronco Raptor on 37s... Ran this February 8, 2025. Probably on the easier side for a trail with a "difficult" rating, but the shelf road at the end is indeed pretty rough and was actually worse to get back up than get down (was expecting the opposite). Get out and give it a scout before committing going down. Less scenic than some of the premier Sedona trails, but make sure to not skip the 1 mile round trip hike to the homstead ruins and Oak Creek at the end. It's well worth it (and honestly, the trail would be a bit lame without doing that in my opinion). Happy I did it, but probably would not rush back here (versus a trail like Outlaw or Broken Arrow which never gets old).
